“Postcard-pretty B&B”

• “The inn feels more like a resort than a bed-and-breakfast, except for the immediate casual, congenial air...”-

• “...one of the premier inns of the foothills and a postcard for what a modern country bed-and-breakfast can be.”

• “ From the outside, the rich, earthy reds and browns and the greenery make it hard to imagine that this was once a barn. Inside, the vaulted ceilings, natural colors and thick beams show what were the bones of the 1918-vintage barn. It's airy and open in there, with windows looking out over gardens and decks and hills.”

• “...picturesque inn surrounded by trees, filled with light and with graceful rooms, and sitting on 10 acres with gardens, flowers, a pretty pond and quirky, amusing art.”

• “The grass and gardens are lush without being manicured. There's a swing looking out to a distant hill, statues hidden in corners, decks and patios with shade, and what they call Big Dipper Pond for its stargazing potential.”

"Country elegance" is a better description, but that downplays the easy comfort, the understated gracefulness and the playful character woven through the rooms, architecture and grounds."

• “Eden Vale Inn has turned a 1918 barn into contemporary lodging in Placerville (El Dorado County).”

• “Sleep tight in contemporary rooms fitted into a repurposed 1918 hay barn. All have outdoor seating, and two have a two-person Japanese soaking tub on a private deck. When not busy relaxing by a slate fireplace in the living room, where the barn's timbered ceilings soar to 27 feet, guests can wander extensive gardens. “

“Find out what rustic elegance really means.”

• “For those wanting to relax in rustic elegance, Eden Vale Inn Bed and Breakfast is the place.”

• “The main garden, behind the inn, has walking paths with enchanting views and lovely fragrances. To the north side, Big Dipper Pond is surrounded by a wildflower garden with a path circling the pond... a verdant setting”

• “The rooms are cozy and well appointed...each room has its own spacious bathroom with cultured stone vanity counters.”

• “Push “the romance button” in your room and the lighting automatically adjusts and the gas fireplace fires up.”

• For breakfast “Everything is made from scratch using seasonal locally grown fruits and vegetables. The sunroom is the preferred place for enjoying the morning meal.”

• “Interior colors reflect the natural hues of the surroundings, with shades of green, gold, red and brown predominating. The floors are oak, large tiles or cork with area rugs strategically placed. The effect is a feeling of being in a lovely rustic space.”

The name encapsulates their goal, with Eden evoking a naturally beautiful garden and Vale describing a place where water flows through a valley surrounded by rock.

sactown MagazineQuoted in its entirety:
“Placerville...WHERE TO STAY Eden Vale Inn”

“How can a converted 1919 barn provide such an unforgettable experience of rustic refinement? It’s a question to ask Eden Vale Inn ($149 - $349; 1780 Springvale Rd.; 530-621-0901, edenvaleinn.com) owners Mark and Gayle Hamlin, who purchased the 10-acre property just west of Placerville in 1985 and opened the seven-room B&B two years ago. Since then the two have been making careful additions (stone patios, vine-covered footbridges, hidden gardens) and it’s not hard to notice the loving attention to detail in this well-appointed establishment. Sip freshly brewed Temple Coffee in the inviting living room with its soaring timbered ceilings, or take the rowboat out for a leisurely pull around the swimming pond. Stay in one of the two of the newly completed rooms—Madrone and Gray Pine—each with a private outdoor patio and two-person Japanese soaking tub (stocked with complimentary Gilchrist & Somes fig and lemon bath salts). Once inside, towel off with thick, white Turkish cotton towels. A press of the wall button labeled “Romance” will ignite the fireplace and dim the lights recessed into the room’s cathedral ceiling. The rest is up to you. – T.S.”

There is an elegant functionality to the rooms--equal parts calming and energetic.”

•“The secluded location adds to the appeal: Wander along footpaths amid dense verdant foliage, or go swimming or rowing on the little lake.”

•“Take breakfast (with fresh fruit, baked goods, and an entree) on the outside deck, surrounded by great views of all the greenery.”
